Inside the Mind of Stanley Kubrick & Planet Saturn

Continuing from the 'V' and the Doubles Phenomenon post, we now enter the world of 2001 : Space Odyssey (RELEASED IN 1968;FILMED IN 1967, same year as the Moon landing)....

Here is a look at something strange that has developed on Saturn's South Pole (but the north is just as strange):

This is what you call a HEXAGON.

Stanley Kubrick comes up on my posts many times. And here, he shows up again. Damn! That genius!

In 2001 Space Odyssey, members originally travel to the Planet Saturn heading for Iaepetus, but Kubrick had to change it to Jupiter. This is because he was unable to recreate a perfect rendition of Saturn's rings.

The name of the International Space Station hovering over Earth in the film is ... Space Station V. What was Science Fiction yesterday, is fiction today. And it just so happens that "Discovery" was the name of the shuttle.

Now, Japetus is another way of spelling (and pronouncing) Saturn's moon Iapetus. Saturn has 33 moons, which can be linked to the highest degree one can achieve in Freemasonry, the 33rd.

Clue: look up the etymology and the history of the name 'Iapetus'.

Another interesting fact not to pass up: Clarke, who wrote the novella after the screenplay was written, had described Iapetus as being black and white. Or, to put it more correctly, one side was much darker than the other. It had two colors....

"Iapetus is best known for its dramatic 'two-tone' coloration, but recent discoveries by the Cassini mission have revealed several other unusual physical characteristics, such as an equatorial ridge that runs about halfway around the moon." - Wikipedia

NASA didn't confirm this two-tone coloring until 2007. There are a lot of strange anomalies attached to this homo sapien sapien moon....

One more fact that might open your mind up a bit, if the above hadn't done so already: Saturn's symbol is the Hexagram, or better known as the star of David. The Hexagram is the linear connecting points of the Hexagon, which happened to 'appear' on Saturn's South Pole. Is that merely coincidence?

Saturn is represented by the Black Cube, the Kaaba. Saturn has seven rings and devout Muslims circumnavigate the Kaaba seven times. The Kaaba is also known as the Temple of the Heart.

What do you think Kubrick was getting at when he was insistent on Monoliths, Saturn, it's moon Iapetus, Discovery, and Space Station V? His story does get stranger with the Shining, Dr. Strangelove, Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut (a film that we was whacked off the face of planet Earth 666 days before the first day of 2001....).
